The Uffizi Gallery, treasures of the Renaissance city

Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance holds, an immense number of artworks kept within its major museums.
The Uffizi Gallery is the most visited museum in Florence, followed by the Accademia Gallery which holds Michelangelo's majestic David. The Uffizi's history and the importance of the masterpieces in it make it the first museum that visitors go to when they come to Florence.
It was built at the behest of Cosimo de' Medici, who turned it from administrative offices into a museum to show the collection owned by the Medici dynasty. From the majestic loggia, you can already glean the power that the Medici family wielded. Cosimo's trusted architect, Giorgio Vasari, was commissioned to design the building.
The artworks inside are arranged chronologically to make for a clear, smooth tour. starting from 13th- and 14th-century art, we admire the Giotto's Ognissanti Madonna and works of his contemporaries Duccio di Buoninsegna and Cimabue. Next, we head to the International Gothic rooms and see Gentile da Fabriano and end in the Uffizi's true heart: the Renaissance rooms.
This is where the art that draws thousands of visitors daily is kept: Sandro Botticelli's Birth of Venus and the Allegory of Spring. These masterpieces embody Florence's rich culture in those years when art was flourishing, its major monuments were built, and artistic innovations were given wide breadth in the city.
The 16th century is at the forefront in the rooms focused on two great geniuses: Michelangelo; here, you can see his only known painted work, the Tondo Doni, and Leonardo da Vinci, the great artist whose genius spawned the most iconic art of all time.
The Uffizi Gallery's arrangement makes for a vast array of possible routes through the museum. You can choose between booking admission tickets or a guided tour. The guided tour will give you a chance to go beyond just seeing the works of art, as it will put them in context and give you a behind-the-scenes peek at the masterpiece and the artist. The best gift you can give yourself is booking a tour with a private guide. A licensed guide will devote their full attention to you, organizing the tour around your needs, and you have the option of creating customized tours.
Let yourself be amazed by new perspectives on major artworks, from the treasures of the Tribune of Francis I, and the views not to miss while walking along the Uffizi Gallery's corridors.
