The Museum – History and useful tips
The Palatine Gallery is inside Palazzo Pitti, the former home of the Medici family. The Gallery starts from the Palace's
piano nobile, decorated by master artist Pietro da Cortona. The exhibition plan is true to the tradition of painting galleries without considering the periods or styles. Its many works of art are exhibited following the taste of Grand Duke Peter Leopold in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The art shown here is part of the Medici family's immense holdings, their many masterpieces split between the Palatine Gallery and the Uffizi Gallery. At the end of the Gallery's many rooms are the Royal Apartments, home first to the Grand Prince Ferdinando de ' Medici, and then to members of the Lorraine family.

Palatine Gallery: The tour
After you've exchanged your voucher at the ticket office, outside of Palazzo Pitti on the right side of the square, you can enter the Gallery directly with your skip-the-line ticket. Go up to the first floor and after the final ticket check, you can go to the
piano nobile. The exhibition continues inside the Footmen's Antechamber through many rooms full of paintings, taking us to the Royal Apartments.

Palatine Gallery: Exhibition rooms and artists
The Palatine Gallery is home to hundreds of masterpieces, many by the greatest names in art history. As we mentioned, though the exhibition is not organized following any particular criteria, we should look at a few pieces more closely. For instance, in the Ulysses Room is Raphael's
Madonna dell'Impannata, and in the Jupiter Room we can appreciate Caravaggio's Sleeping Cupid. The names of famous artists abound, including Rubens, Van Dyck, Rosso Fiorentino, Titian, Filippo Lippi, Pontormo, and Canova.

Palatine Gallery – Useful information
Before heading up to the first floor to start your tour, remember that Palazzo Pitti's coat check and café are on the ground floor. There is a bookshop on the first floor. You may take pictures without a flash and take non-professional videos inside the Palatine Gallery.
The ticket for admission to the Palatine Gallery includes admission to the Modern Art Gallery, the Museum of Fashion and Costume, and the Treasury of the Grand Dukes.
