Itinerary of guided tour of the Accademia Gallery
The Accademia Gallery is one of the smallest museum in Florence. But at the same time it houses some of the most important sculptures in the world. The most famous one is the David by Michelangelo Buonarroti. Thousands of tourists a day come to Florence to admire the colossal marble statue of the David lodged in the Tribuna. The Tribuna was built precisely to frame this sculptural masterpiece.
The guide will tell you the history of the giant representation of this bible hero and point out every important artistic detail of the David.
After that, the guide will show you the Slaves, another masterpiece by Michelangelo. These unfinished sculptures were destined to decorate the tomb of Pope Julius II in Rome.
The Accademia Gallery in Florence hosts some artworks by Giambologna as well and some plaster reproductions of worldwide famous sculptures.
