Tour itinerary Christian Rome with Private Guide
The tour of Rome's Christian history starts from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Set on the top of the Esquiline Hill, it is best known for the miraculous snowfall involving Pope Liberius.
A short walk will take us to what is known as the "the mother of all churches," the Basilica of St. John Lateran. Known as a link between the pagan era and the Christian era, it gained considerable importance over the centuries. Adjacent to the Church is the Scala Sancta [the Holy Stairs] the third stop on our 4-hour guided tour. This site is of enormous importance to Christianity with great religious value. The tour will take you to see the stairs that Jesus took to the praetorium where he was tried by Pontius Pilate. The guide will tell you the history of why the Stairs are in Rome and the major historical figures part of their history.
The final part of the tour is the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, to which we will take a taxi. Famed for its beautiful interior, its most awe-inspiring features are the 150 columns built in the mid 19th century in the center of which is a colossal statue of St. Paul.
