VENARIA PALACE WITH PRIVATE GUIDE: TOUR ITINERARY
Explore one of Europe’s best-preserved 17th- and 18th-century palaces with a licensed guide from Turin.
The tour begins at the Corte d’Onore, where you’ll see the spectacular Water Theater of the Stag Fountain, famous for its 100 jets, colorful vapors, and pipes reaching up to 12 meters.
Next, enter the ground floor, featuring a faithful reconstruction of the Savoy court, then ascend to the Royal Apartments, transformed into a palace by Vittorio Emanuele II in 1863. Passionate about hunting, he spent much of the year here.
The palace, originally called the Castello della Mandria, spans 35,000 m² in a rectangular layout with three courtyards. Highlights include:
- Hall of Diana, dedicated to the goddess of hunting, with ten hunting-themed paintings by Jan Miel
- Personal rooms of the Duke and Duchess, and the King and Queen
- Great Gallery, Rondò Alfieriano, and Chapel of Saint Hubert
The tour features over 500 works of art, including tapestries, paintings, sculptures, and furniture. The Princess Ludovica’s apartment houses a permanent exhibition of 17th-century paintings by Guercino, Rubens, Van Dyck, and Guido Reni.
You will also visit the Hall of the Arts, typically hosting temporary exhibitions, and the Juvarrian Stables, a masterpiece of 18th-century European Baroque, home to the Bucintoro, the only remaining Venetian golden galley in the world.
Finally, discover the monumental gardens, designed in the Italian style and divided into two parts: the Lower Park, with the 10-hectare Potager Royal (a kitchen garden and orchard whose produce can be purchased), and the Upper Park, featuring grand alleys, woodlands, and the Fantacasino, accessible by horse-drawn carriage.
The Venaria gardens, together with the palace, are a true open-air heritage site, recently restored with European Union funds and now a must-see attraction for all visitors to Turin.
